Commercial Press Operator

Department:

Printing

Reports to:

Department supervisor

Primary Responsibility:

Operation of commercial flexographic printing press(es)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Set up press to produce printed film in accordance with the specifications
    and quality requirements of the docket and operate at slow speed to check
    samples

  • Ensure scrap rates on all dockets are maintained below 2%

  • Maintains consistent print (i.e.: viscosity, register) through out order

  • Maintain a safe and clean work area around press(es)

  • Fills out check sheets to assure print quality is maintained

Duties:

  • Mount plates or cylinders and make necessary adjustments

  • Fill ink fountains and control colour and viscosity

  • Monitor regular press run for quality using computer control console

  • Remove and clean plates and cylinders at end of press run

  • Set up and adjust in-line binding and finishing equipment

  • File and clean printing plates after use

  • Organize film, print cylinders and prepare press for up coming orders to
    minimize downtime

  • Ensures inks, alcohol and solvents are readily available for shift

  • Maintains presses (i.e.: lubricating, adjusting parts)

  • Instructs Press Helper to assist Pressman with all other tasks, such as:

  • pan cleaning, 

  • annilox roller changes, 

  • inker (rubber) roller change, 

  • cylinder removal, 

  • cylinder installation, 

  • re-stocking all excess inks in the ink room

  • Dispenses ink as needed

Must haves:

Weight handling up to 30lbs


Work Experience Required: 2 years to 3 years experience

Minimum Education Required: Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
experience

Language: English workplace language

Adjuster Trainees

Department:

Reports to:

Departmental Supervisor

Primary Responsibility:

Reporting to the Supervisor, adjuster trainees are responsible for learning and performing the necessary adjustments, maintenance, and repairs on paper bag making machines in order to ensure their optimal operation. They work under a senior adjuster or supervisor to acquire the skills and knowledge required to carry out these tasks effectively.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Learning the operation of paper bag making machines and the associated mechanical systems.

  • Assisting with set-up and operation of paper bag making machines.

  • Making minor adjustments to the machines to ensure proper operation.

  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues with the machines, including replacing the parts with the support of the maintenance team.

  • Performing routine maintenance on the machines, such as cleaning and lubricating components.

  • Monitoring the performance of the machines and making adjustments as needed to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

  • Communicating effectively with supervisors, senior adjusters and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the paper bag making machines.

Duties:

  • Assists in the setting-up, operating and adjusting of Paper Bag machines as required.

  • Draws from ink and adhesives required for each shift and returns unused portions from storage.

  • Supports team members including operators, bag catchers and balers.

  • Assists with the end of shift clean up of machinery.

  • Investigates and eliminates production problems as they arise.

  • Performs any other duties as assigned by management.

  • Shift work is required for this position

Must haves:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English; reading, writing and speaking

  • Ability to follow and give directions

  • Strong mechanical ability

  • Physically able to perform all aspects of the job; be on your feet entire shift, bending, reaching , walking, lifting up to 50lbs

Pressman Assistant

Department:

Printing

Reports to:

Pressman

Primary Responsibility:

Assist the Pressman with the set-up and production of printed plastic film which meets or exceeds all specifications and quality requirements in the most cost effective way.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Cut cores, make boxes and cut square pack

  • Organize and complete all paperwork related to docket

  • Perform quality checks at all stages set-up and production

  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment

  • Perform all Work Activities in a safe efficient manner

  • Assist with all other work that needs to be completed

Duties:

  • Turns over and packs all rolls off winders

  • Sets up winders for change-overs (i.e. J-film, sheeting

  • Performs general housekeeping (i.e. sweeping, changing scrap boxes, disposing of garbage, keeping the workspace clean and clutter free)

  • Cuts cores, makes boxes, cuts square pack

  • Weighs rolls (boxes) and records

  • Double checks quality of print, film, film (bag) dimensions

  • Assists Pressman with all press related set-ups

  • Organizes and fills out all paperwork related to order

  • Operates separator

  • Operates forklift

  • Double checks Pressman’s set-up, ink, print placement and plates

  • Quality checks on jobs being run and reports and variances to Pressman

  • Packs skids and blue cards all out-going orders

  • Packs skids and delivers W.I.P. to either C.I. department or converting department

  • Removal of plates from cylinders

  • Filing of Plates

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Pressman

Must haves:

  • Grade 12 Graduation or equivalent

  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude

Machine Operator

Department:

Paper

Reports to:

Supervisor

Primary Responsibility:

Reporting to the Supervisor, your primary responsibility is to collect and stack bags manufactured by bag machine, monitoring machine for efficient operation and quality of bags produced.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collect and stack bags produced by machine keeping accurate counts

  • Ensure all bags meet quality standards by following all Quality Control procedures

  • Complete all paperwork in an accurate and timely manner

  • Follow all Food Safety, Product Quality, Health, and Safety Guidelines as laid out in the Departmental Summary

  • Perform all work in a safe manner

  • Assist with all other work that needs to be completed

Duties:

  • Count and check bags as they come off the machine for quality and per the docket

  • Strong ability to count and differentiate between numbers

  • Ability to complete all paperwork

Must haves:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, reading, writing and speaking

  • Physically able to perform all job requirements; be on your feet entire shift, bending, reaching , walking, lifting up to 50 lbs

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
